You never know when they’ll be gone…

5 years ago today, my mother lost her battle with cancer.

It was the hardest time in my life watching that process painfully play out over the course of a couple months, but, it was during that time that I also felt like I was able to get to know her on a deeper level than before.

Before she was sent to hospice care, I would go to Starbucks a couple times a week and bring some “fancy” coffee to her hospital bed, and I would sit next to her and we would chat for an hour or so before she got too tired to talk.

She would tell me all of these stories about her and my dad and her life growing up - it was the first time that she shared these kinds of stories with me and I was soaking it all in, assuming that once she was back on her feet, we can make jokes about it with Dad.

Unfortunately, that day never came.

I really am grateful for the opportunity to spend those moments with her because in a few short weeks, her ability to talk was gone, and we weren’t even sure if she knew we were in the room with her.

My heart says she did, so, that’s good enough for me.
My heart also tells me that even though she’d probably would have freaked out at my decision to quit my job and start a business, she’d be my number one fan, because she always was.

Wow, this is difficult to talk about…

How bout we leave it at this...

Find your nearest loved one right now, give them a hug and let them know that you love them.

I used to think that kinda stuff was fluffy bullshit that really doesn’t mean much.

Now, I don’t. We don’t know when the merry-go-round stops, so enjoy the ride to the fullest extent with those that matter to you.

That’s all.
