What’s one of the best ways to add value in your lifetime?

Share what you know to help others grow.

In the past 6 years, I’ve picked up a couple things along the way that’s helped me transform from a guy who abruptly quit his well-paying television producer job to running a successful photography business that serves speakers, trainers and other expert-based business owners.

The journey has been equal parts satisfying and mind-numbingly terrifying.

The journey also taught me that growth and evolution never stops, which has kept me focused on building what I know to keep on moving forward.

The journey also has highlighted my desire to share what I’ve learned with other lifestyle portrait photographers so that they can avoid the pitfalls and wrong turns with their own businesses.

I’ve been fortunate to receive some amazing advice and insights from talented colleagues and mentors that it’s now time for me to pay it forward.

And that's why, recently, I started a brand new blog just to speak to them about it.

In keeping with the persuasive visual storytelling approach I take with my photo clients, I’ve aptly named the blog, The Persuasive Photographer.

Every week, I’ll share insights based off my client work and personal stories that will help photographers create an emotional connection with their audiences in order to ultimately produce better work.

Some of the topics that I will touch on week-to-week include:

  • Building relationships with your audience

  • Content creation and storytelling that draws a crowd

  • Mindset Strategies to combat procrastination and slow periods

  • Working behind the camera to improve the work

  • Working directly with clients - from consultation call to delivery of images

  • And, photo business insights to increase visibility and establish credibility

My goal is to build and support a community of like-minded photographers looking to monetize their art without compromising their integrity or settling for mediocre work.

That’s also why the blog has an accompanying Facebook Group named The Persuasive Photographer, as well. That Group is meant for members to share their own questions and find out what’s working and not working for other shooters.

After all, high tide raises all boats.

And that’s why I’m asking you for a favor.

If you know any photographers who would benefit from learning a little something about building a lifestyle portrait photography business and won’t be turned off by the, ahem, colorful charm, in which I often express my thoughts, can you please share The Persuasive Photographer signup form with them?

I’m excited to start this up, get the word out and help other photographers get over the hump and start making magic with those they serve.

I mean, the opportunity to have some water cooler, shit talking moments about our clients behind your backs sounds like a really fun activity - I kid, I kid!

You know I love you guys - without you, this photo blog wouldn’t exist, after all, :)

By the way, if you’re NOT a photographer and are interested in checking out the stuff I say behind your back, if you go to any page on my website, johndemato.com, just click the FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS button on the navigation bar, and you’re there.

Either way, I thank you in advance for helping me spread the word about The Persuasive Photographer blog.
