"Figuring it out..."
I spoke with a young photographer the other day who is only a few months into being a professional.
He’s been following my journey online for quite some time, and I offered to chat with him about where he is in his business.
At one point, he asked me about the moment that I knew when I “figured it all out.”
After letting out a big laugh, I told him, “You’ll be the first to know when I do.”
Truth be told, I had that same thought when I first started my business and was quickly educated on how it all works by working with experts going through the same thing. I learned that the most successful speakers and business owners are those who embrace this mindset.
It’s not about figuring it out - it’s about being valuable in a way that solves the problems for those you serve in the way you know how in the moment you’re doing it.
And then, through experience, iterate and refine that process over and over again.
The perception that one day you’ll “figure it all out” is a myth. Instead, it’s about constantly evolving and improving based on your feedback and experiences.
And then, create new avenues to serve your people based on those experiences. As you gain more experience, you’ll find new ways to connect with and help your audience. This might mean developing new content or exploring additional services you can offer, like workshops, consulting, or online courses.
Rinse and repeat. This cycle of serving, learning, and evolving never stops. It’s a continuous process that ensures you remain relevant and valuable to your audience.
I believe that in order to be a successful business owner, you first need to be comfortable with the fact that nothing is easy, and you never have it all figured out.
Accepting this reality is liberating. It frees you from the pressure of a final destination and allows you to focus on the journey of growth, improvement and service.
Rather than figuring it all out, focus on providing value, solving problems, and continuously evolving. Your audience will appreciate your authenticity and dedication, and your business will thrive as a result.
