How do you treat yourself?

When things go right…

…that’s a cause for a celebration.

How do you treat yourself after a successful…keynote, facilitation, sale, conference or client win?

Recently, I had a moment of gratitude as I reflected on a successful couple months.

It felt pretty magical and I wanted to cement that sentiment by celebrating the moment by getting myself an unexpected treat.

So what did I do?

I bought myself a pair of sneakers.

But not just any sneakers - a pair of orange, New Balance 574’s. And boy, are they cuuuute :)

It’s not the first time that I’ve bought a pair of sneakers to celebrate a good moment in life or business, either. Apparently, it seems that it’s becoming a default move when good news swirls into town…

…which can become a problem for a guy that lives in a NYC apartment!

Space issues aside, I’m not buying these sneakers because I’m a dye-in-the-wool sneakerhead.

Far from it.

I buy them because the vivid colors and simple design palette makes me happy. Since I wear black T-shirts 99% of the time, they add some life to my otherwise blank palette.

While I could treat myself in grander fashion by booking a vacation or buying something really pricey, I dunno, I really find joy in the small things, like a pair of new kicks.

Or an extra fancy coffee.

Or ordering in.

Or allowing myself to go another night to my local bar.

Or take a cab ride home when a train ride would’ve been just fine.

Reading all this back, it appears as though I’m a cheap date - and I am more than okay with that.

It’s all about understanding what works best for YOU, and also understanding that what works for you today will inevitably evolve over time.

And that’s fine, too.

But, it all starts with creating an opportunity for yourself to celebrate your wins by treating yourself to something that puts a smile on your face. Big treat, small treat, whatever.

Because you deserve it :)

Speaking of treats…

How do you celebrate the victories in your life and business? What does that look like for you?
