[PODCAST] Archiving an event vs. capturing a moment

There is a fundamental difference between archiving an event versus capturing a moment

It could be the difference between capturing the attention of those you serve or having them skip past you to continue to scroll down their feeds.

There is a common misconception circulating out in the world these days.

That is, since everyone has a smartphone with a camera, that means everyone is a photographer.

So, I’m going to go ahead and skip the sarcastic, snarky and downright brutal opinion that I have towards that statement when I hear it and just say that no, this is not true.

And it’s not even about the technology - it’s about the eye, intention and purpose of the person taking the photograph.

When you have a powerful camera in your hands, but have absolutely no idea how to use it, but can at least point it at something and capture a picture in focus, you’re simply archiving the event, the happening, the thing going on in front of the camera.

But, when a professional photographer takes a picture, he or she is employing a high level of skill, experience and ability to truly capture the moment in front of the lens.

Those are two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT scenarios.

Now for some people, archiving an event is more than enough, and that’s totally cool!

But for speakers, trainers and expert-based business owners looking to create connection, develop a relationship and establish trust with those they serve, they need more sentiment behind the visuals they share with their audiences.

I spoke about this concept of archiving an event and capturing the moment during my conversation with Jurgen Strauss of the InnovaBiz podcast.

In addition to this piece of the conversation, we also talked about:

  • What makes a good visual story

  • The strategy behind a successful photographs that build an emotional connection with your dream clients

  • Lighting tips for online meetings
