Let's give this the ol' college try...
For years, YouTube was a digital container for video clips that I used in my blogs and social content.
Upload, generate the link, and paste that link where needed.
The end.
But recently, I had an epiphany.
You see, I’m working on building visibility for my DELIVER MAGIC training program. And, my initial thought was that I’d like to build my authority organically over time. I’m not in a huge rush.
While I already have an Instagram page that pumps out content, I felt that I needed a space to expand further on insights and strategies related to branded lifestyle portrait photography.
So, I started to look into it by asking colleagues for suggestions as to where I should look for information on how to actually play the YouTube Game effectively.
Fortunately, when I reached out to Robert Kennedy III, he graciously suggested I follow one expert he knew of on the topic…Sean Cannel.
…and I proceeded to watch HOURS AND HOURS of clips on his company page, and take a ridiculous amount of notes on everything and anything to build a YouTube presence.
My conclusion? YouTube is a real pain in the ass to earn attention. It’s also A LOT of work - not just the content, but everything before and after the content is in the can.
Despite these very true statements, I decided that this was worth a shot to pursue as a long term game strategy to build an audience.
After spending hours looking up keyword phrases, writing, shooting and editing the videos based on those keywords, creating thumbnails, and offering my best effort at optimizing the post for YouTube’s tricky algorithm, I created my first set of videos to relaunch my channel.
I have no idea if the juice will be worth the squeeze, but I do know one thing after working with successful Experts over the years:
There’s no one-size-fits-all playbook to build an audience. You have to be willing to try a variety of approaches and see what sticks.
As overwhelming as it may be.
Since I want to be cool like you folks, here’s putting my best foot forward :)
