What lifestyle activities are a huge part of your daily routine?

What lifestyle activities are a huge part of your daily routine?

Share them with those you serve.

When you’re looking to create rapport with those you serve, one of the best ways to facilitate that connection is by creating content that illustrates your life beyond the work.

You’re not a superhero that lives and dies on the job.

You have interests beyond the ones that you charge money to solve for others.

There is a whole life that you live, and it’s essential that you share some elements of it in order to show your audience that you do, in fact, eat, sleep and work just like they do.

It’s that fine balance between superhero and relatable that you want to walk when creating content that resonates with those you serve.

One person who straddles this line exceptionally well is Ted Rubin.

I’ve been working with Ted for about 4 years, and have photographed him in front of countless rooms, and through several branded lifestyle portrait sessions in NYC.

For his most recent session, Ted flew me down to his home in Florida and the goal was to capture images of him in doing his day-to-day thing.

Without question, we talked about capturing lifestyle portraits of him working on his laptop and computer.

But, one of the more interesting aspects to his daily routine is his morning workout.

Rather than going to a gym, Ted has access to a pool and spends close to an hour in it on most mornings.

On the first morning that I was there, I saw him jump in the pool and I grabbed my camera:

Rather than simply shooting the same angle over and over, I wanted to capture a wide variety of angles and compositions of him performing various exercises in the water.

The more diverse the composition and activity, the more versatile the images become.

As I mentioned to him after I shot them, there’s a lot of storytelling flexibility with image content like this.

For example, here are a couple idea nuggets that pop into my mind as I look over these images:

  • A blog post about productivity and how it’s important to stick to routines to build momentum

  • A social post that talks about starting off your day strong

  • A social post that highlights his thoughts on living a healthy, vegan life

  • A blog post with one of these photos used as a metaphor for moving forward despite resistance in your life

  • A social post where he shares when he decided to incorporate swimming into his life

  • A social post that incorporates his #NoLetUp hashtag

  • A video clip that uses several photos as part of a montage

So, this is barely scratching the surface.

Regardless, there are several ways these images can be leveraged to visually punctuate the sentiments of a variety of stories, whether literally or metaphorically.

Aside from the visual punctuation aspect, allowing your audience into your life by sharing what your day-to-day routine looks like peels back the layers of the onion and allows them to get to know you without ever having a conversation in person with them.

That way, when they do schedule a call with you, they are already primed and feel extremely comfortable with you based on the relationship that you helped establish with them through the image content you share.

Keep this in mind the next time you think about updating your image content portfolio.

It’s not enough to simply capture photos of you looking ecstatically happy and badass anymore.

Build relationships with your content - not just the stories that you share, but also through the image content that visually punctuates those stories.

These lifestyle images will go a long way to inspire your audience to stop the scroll and engage your content.
