Pick Your Spots To Generate Social Media Content

Pick Your Spots To Generate Social Media Content.

The best way to brainstorm is different for everyone. Play and experiment.

When you’ve committed to creating consistent, social media content, it’s important to draw inspiration from all walks of your life the moment an idea nugget strikes you in order to paint the full picture of who you are, who you serve, and why you do what you do.

Having said that, it’s also important to set specific time aside in order to harness some deep-level, idea generation.

I’ve learned this lesson myself throughout the past year or so, as I’ve considerably ramped up my content creation.

In the past, I would wake up in the morning and force myself to extemporaneously brainstorm for at least for 30 minutes before I did anything else. What I found was that, although the occasional idea nugget would be unearthed, I mostly spent the time rattling off a lot of nonsensical gibberish that couldn’t be translated into compelling stories that teaches my audience a valuable lesson.

Now, that’s not to say that I’ve absconded from brainstorm writing altogether, but, when I force it, it just doesn’t produce the intended effects. I, now, am much more strategic with my free-writing time, and, it’s become a much more valuable tool in the idea generation process.

What I found to be more effective on a daily basis is rooted in one of my favorite pastimes.

When I’m hanging out in the front of my apartment with a cigar in hand, some music blasting in my headphones,  and I’m people watching, this immediately gets my creative juices flowing.

It’s during that time that my brain becomes fertile soil and it’s ripe for cherry picking some interesting idea nuggets - like the genesis behind writing this article, for example, :)

Although the smoke is great, it’s not the only spot that I am inspired to generate some great content for my social and blog posts.

For example, when I am on the phone with colleagues talking shop, a bevy of interesting insights pour out of my head.  As such, I make damn sure that I have a pad and pen on standby, ready to jot down all these interesting idea nuggets before they disappear into thin air.

I’m sure you’re familiar with losing amazing ideas and then spend the next hour trying to remember what you were thinking - not a fun place to be, right?

In order to avoid that from happening, set yourself up for success by identifying the types of scenarios that would work best for you to set time aside and brainstorm some amazing content that will help your tribe get over the hurdles that are holding them back from showing up in the world the way they want.

As a way to help you identify these moments throughout your day, ponder the following questions:

  • What time of day do you find yourself the most creative?
  • Do you work better by scheduling your time or do you prefer to sit down and create when the moment strikes you?
  • Do you prefer total quiet or do you prefer being around other people?
  • Do you find it effective to bounce ideas off of or do you prefer to create alone?
  • What activities in your life inspire your creative juices to flow?

Once you give yourself a more well-rounded view of your ideal situations and locations to sit down and create, it’s time to set up a process around it and follow through.

Remember, your tribe looks to you for guidance and help, so, the work that you put in to create the content that moves the needle for them is worth it.

They’ll thank you for this hard work by investing in your services when they are ready to commit, so, needless to say, the work you put in is totally worth it, :)
