This simple tip will end the frustration with handheld self portraits
Want to learn a simple tip to make handheld self portraits easier to capture?
It’s simply a button push away, :)
Have you ever found it difficult to take a high quality, self portrait handheld?
Tell me if this sounds familiar:
You’re clumsily holding the phone with 4 fingers while cupping it your palm. The moment you find a shot you like, you attempt to reach over to the shutter button at the bottom of the screen with your thumb and, all of a sudden, the way you were positioned in the frame is gone because you moved everything in an attempt to take the actual picture.
It’s annoying as hell, isn’t it?
From my own experiences, I can confirm some major problems trying to use my thumb while holding the camera and not losing the shot I like without fumbling mightily.
Oftentimes, the photos taken in this manner turn out like the one above - I look frustrated, the camera completely moved, and the photo is completely useless.
What to do?
“Your course is worth every penny. I found out that I can take phone photos with my volume buttons!
I was happy to receive this direct message the other day from a customer who bought the Shoot It Yourself: Develop A Portrait Photographers Eye With Your Phone course.
He mentioned that when he now sets up a self portrait, he can position the camera exactly where he wants it, and when it’s time to snap the photo, he can easily tap his volume button on the side of the phone, which no longer forces him to shimmy his thumb to the bottom of his screen and completely alter the shot.
Ahhhh, magical! At least that’s how I felt when I discovered that fun lil’ trick.
While a very simple fix, it can make the difference between capturing a photo that will end up on your social media feed or end up getting deleted faster than it took to photograph it.
The best part?
While the course was created exclusively with my IPhone, he uses a Google Pixel, and that alternative shutter button exists on two totally different phones, :)
The even better part?
Many of the insights shared in SIY not only apply to most, if not all, smartphone cameras, but ALL cameras, big and small, period.
Some of the other topics covered in the course include composition, lighting, scouting locations, image tweaking in post-production, and much, much more!
