Taking good self portraits is a pain in the ass, but not an impossible mission
Taking good self portraits is a pain in the ass
...but it’s certainly not an impossible mission
Let’s face it - for many folks, their interest in conducting a smartphone self portrait session falls right in between going to the dentist for a root canal without anesthesia and having their foot run over by a bus.
For them, it’s not exactly a fun way to spend their time. Can you relate to this?
Listen, I get it - you have good reasons for feeling this way.
Part of what leads to your hatred of the activity is the fact that you have no idea how to actually capture a well-composed image that presents you in a friendly, confident and flattering way.
Yeah, that’s a lot of shit to accomplish in just one photo.
And that doesn’t even speak to all of the variables that must be addressed in order to achieve those lofty goals for your self portraits.
But, the light at the end of the tunnel is that this, ultimately, is not an impossible mission.
The ability to capture high quality, self-portraits is not a predestined, rooted only in your DNA, sort of thing; it’s a learned set of skills that, over time and through consistent practice, will make the process more palatable, and dare I even say, fun.
Nailing a good photo, in fact, will put a big smile on your face - trust me, :)
Now, I know some of you might be saying to yourself, “I don’t need to capture self portraits - I’ll just hire a photographer…”
Of course, my initial response to that statement is, “yeah absolutely, I agree - what the hell are you waiting for to hire me!”
But, the reality is that you have interesting moments happening throughout your day, every day, at any given moment, and you want to capture those moments.
But, you’d need to hire a photographer to hover around you 24/7 to be able to capture all of those moments. Not a very likely scenario.
As a result, you need to take matters into your own hands - and smartphone camera!
You also need some direction to give you the what and how behind capturing well-composed and flattering self portraits…
And that’s where I come in, :)
Over the next week, I’m going to share several key insights through the next couple blog articles and social posts (links to follow me on social are at the bottom of this page) pulled directly from my new course called:
Shoot It Yourself: Develop A Portrait Photographers Eye With Your Phone
Some of the topics discussed in these posts include:
Composing Your Photo
Reviewing + Selecting The Best Images
Image Tweaking In Post-Production
While these posts pack quite a punch in terms of the strategies shared, they represent a tip of the tip of the insight iceberg that the SIY online course offers as a whole.
It’s 9-modules that span the above topics, in addition to:
Navigating The Smartphone Camera Basics
Stabilizing The Camera
Scouting Locations
And much, much more.
Now - raise your hand if you like discounts? Good - I’m keeping tabs on who did! :)
For the next 100 folks who want their hands on a copy of SIY right now, I’m offering it at a 25% discount.
From what I’m hearing from friends and colleagues who’ve already bought and watched the course, this offer is NOT going to last very long! So, if you’re interested, learn more about the course and purchase it here.
