Avoid this mistake before your next session

Yes, capturing prestige portraits are important...

But, you need to be ready for them.

How do you know if you're ready for a session to create a high-volume, image library of prestige portraits?

  • Do you have a well-defined brand to help generate the creative direction for the image content?
  • Have you committed to some form of a consistent social media strategy?
  • Are you mentally prepared to ignore the negative “head garbage” about your appearance and re-purpose your energy on creating amazing image content?
  • Can you afford a session with the photographer of your choice without overextending your finances?

During several strategy calls with potential clients, I have flat out told them that they are not ready to work with me based on their answers to the above questions.

Although some of my fellow photographers think I’m nuts for turning down work, I see it another way.

I don’t see working with thought leaders as collecting a check.

I see myself more as a collaborator in their success, and as such, I am more empathetic and honest with people with whom I collaborate.

I ask them “what’s the point of creating a gigantic image library of prestige portraits if the most that you’ll do with them is download them to your computer?”

Or, “why are you spending over $3,000 of money that you don’t really have?”

Being prepared for your session sets you up for success on many levels.

By having a well-defined plan and the money to finance it, that confidence will radiate on your face throughout the session.

Conversely, when you spitball shit together haphazardly, last minute, or not at all, guess what - that also will radiate all over your face.

Needless to say, this is not what we’re looking to achieve here, folks.

It’s important to treat your portrait session as a precious investment of your time and money, just like other worthwhile investments you make to advance your business

Do your homework, keep your business goals in mind and plan accordingly.

If you need help, there’s Google to research answers to your questions, or it will point you in the direction of someone who can help figure out the answers for you.

And if money is the issue, don’t go on the cheap with a photographer - save until you can afford the photographer you actually want to work with!

By not compromising on the photographer you wanted to work with, you will not only ensure that the quality of these prestige portraits will match your standards, but you will appreciate those photos more because of it!

Long story short, don’t wing it - your followers are counting on you to do much better than that.
