#bookboudoir BTS magic

Over the past year, I’ve photographed a lot of books.

Here’s what the work behind the work looks like.

If you would’ve told me when I started my business that I’d be photographing books for authors, I said you were full of it.

At that time, I was focused solely on photographing human beings and not objects…

...And I also didn’t see the value of photographing pull quotes, section headers or illustrations within a book.

Well, what the hell did I know?

Live, learn and adapt to create more value for those you serve, right?

It’s been a magical evolution through the 30+ books that I’ve captured, and I’ve shared that journey throughout my social platforms, as well as in this blog.

But one aspect of the session that has gotten very little attention is the behind-the-scenes staging of these books.

And, while I might be biased, I think it’s one of the cooler aspects of the process…

...in addition to the fact that I’m shooting words of transformation within these chapters, of course :)

Since I photograph these books with no one else in the room, I devised an efficient and effective way to keep the pages open without using my hands.

And that’s when I repurposed a handful of staging clamps as book page openers and book stands:

Not exactly what those clamps were intended for, but they certainly fit the bill for this kind of work!

Whether shooting in my apartment or in another location, being able to shoot book covers, as well as selected portions of the interior, has given me the ability to provide authors with the types of image content that they need to attract potential readers to their book.

It allows them a chance to feel the book in their hands through their eyes.

And that’s one step closer to them hitting the BUY NOW button.

End of the day, I’m grateful to be able to provide this service to authors who have something important to share and need to spread the word through their content to those who need to hear it.

Turning to you…
