The Mark of a True Superhero

Educate and inspire while also being relatable.

The mark of a true superhero.

As a speaker, author, trainer or other expert-based business owner, you’re in the business of transformation.

Your expertise, experiences and frameworks help people get past what’s holding them back so they can show up in the world exactly the way they want.

It’s a pretty important job - a job reserved for a superhero!

But here’s the thing:

It’s not enough to wear the mask, put on the cape, perch yourself on the top of the skyscraper, looking down on the city, ready to solve people’s problems.

You also have to be relatable.

Why?

Because you’ll intimidate the shit out of people who need you most, that’s why.

You need to let them know that while you do possess a particular set of skills, you also obsess over hobbies, socialize with friends, and even watch crappy TV shows, too.

When you share aspects of your life outside the work you do to serve, you’re giving your audience a less intimidating entry point into your life.

When they see these photos and read the stories you’ve shared with them, this gives them a greater context into who you are, who you serve and why you do what you do.

This allows them to qualify you as a whole person, and not simply based on what you can do to help solve their challenges.

It clues them into the fact that you’re not some cyborg workaholic whose only aim is to sell them your shit.

It’s setting up the building blocks for a genuine relationship.

And when it comes to building a community of advocates and clients, relationship-building is what keeps the world spinning on its axis.

But sharing these types of images and stories is not enough. There’s another step.

When you share an image like the ones presented above, encourage your audience to engage these posts in some way through a call to action.

Incorporate leading questions at the end:

  • “What are your thoughts/take on…”

  • “What’s your experience with…”

  • “Can you relate?”

Simple calls-to-action like these at the conclusion of your stories will open the door for your audience to share and feel like they’re a part of the conversation.

And that’s one of the main functions of your image content; to be the spark of inspiration for your audience to connect with you and start a dialog.

After all, people will find a way to pay good money to those they like.

And since everyone isn’t going to like you - I certainly learned that the hard way, :) - give those who resonate with your personality, sensibilities and expertise a life-changing opportunity to discover you online and like you enough to pay for your help.

That’s the mark of a true superhero.
