How to squeeze more juice out of your image content

How to squeeze more juice out of your image content

When it comes to leveraging your branded lifestyle portraits, there’s more than one way to skin that cat and no shortage of places in which to leverage them.

Recently, I was checking out my client, Lou Diamond’s, Instagram feed - okay, I was stalking his page, as I do with all my clients, lol - and noticed that he was doing something very cool...

...well, in all honesty, the first thing I noticed is that I recognized most of those photos in his feed since we created them together, :)

But more importantly, you’ll notice a really interesting design element he’s employing throughout his feed:

Rather than simply posting one image per post, he’s creating multiple tiles per single image.

Pretty interesting looking, isn’t it?

Now, what exactly is the benefit of employing this tactic?

Well, on a practical level, Lou is giving himself the opportunity to stretch out the value of his image content portfolio by using one photo over the course of multiple posts.

That means if he posts one tile per day, that one photo could theoretically be stretched out over the course of 9 days (when you watch the video tutorial, you’ll see why it’s up to 9 days).

That’s a huge bonus if you don’t have too many branded image assets at your disposal!

On an aesthetic level, using multiple tiles to display one image is a compelling and eye-catching approach to curating your Instagram feed.

If you notice in the above images, Lou is sprinkling in single shots, 2-tile and 3-tile images throughout his feed.

When you split up an image in the way that Lou does, it gives your viewer a closer look into the finer details of the image.

This shakes up the look of his profile in a way that will gain the attention of anyone that stumbles across his page considering most people stick with the one image/video, one tile model.

In addition, creating multi-tiled images can also help you beat the Instagram algorithm! The app is more likely to share this post with your followers based on as many tiles per post, which means the likelihood people gravitate to your feed will increase.

As you can see, there’s several practical and artistic advantages to leveraging the multi-tiled look.

It’s an option that I suggest you consider when devising your Instagram content strategy.

But, is it a pain in the ass to put together, you’re probably asking yourself?

Nope.

Lou leverages an IOS app on his phone to create his multi-tiled look.

And, while there are many app options to create this look, I found a tutorial video on Youtube that will explain how to use an IOS and Android-compatible app, PhotoSplit:

Have fun creating magical, multi-tiled image posts on Instagram! I look forward to seeing what your creative juices produce, :)
