Resume or refresh?

As you begin the New Year...

...start it off right by auditing your image portfolio.

Ah, new year, new beginnings, new...blah blah blah.

I’m sure you’ve heard enough of that type of talk over the past couple weeks, so I’ll spare you from any more of that

But, it is January, which is the time many experts execute on a new approach to serving their audiences. And with a new approach comes many questions, most notably:

Do I have the marketing assets to help promote this new direction?

Of course, a huge piece to the marketing puzzle involves your image content.

Are these photos the ones you need to help position you in the eyes of those you serve as the authority in your space of expertise while also being an empathetic and relatable human being?

Or, is it time to refresh the portfolio?

Here are a couple questions to marinate on when determining the answer to this very important question:

  • First and foremost, when you look at your photos, do they still look like you?

  • As a whole, does your image portfolio represent where you are with your business?

  • Formed a new partnership or collaboration? Do you have photos that represent this new direction?

  • Are you confident with your current crop of promotional photos to submit for podcasts and other media appearances?

  • When it comes to your online content, do you have enough visual variety to create unique and dynamic social posts for the entire year?

  • What about your blog thumbnails? Photo content to cover this need?

  • How about your videos? Are there photos set aside to create artwork for those?

  • Does your portfolio include candid lifestyle photos that show how you do your work, whether it’s on your phone, tablet and/or laptop?

  • Is your current team featured in your image content?

  • If you leverage the virtual space - whether it’s presentations or other meeting types - is that represented in your photos?

  • Live events - we’re talking about keynotes, break-out sessions, workshops and other in-person facilitations - are you covered? Or, are the photos you have outdated and stale at this point?

  • Run a mastermind? Do you have behind-the-scenes images of that experience represented in your portfolio?

  • Planning on pushing a new online course this year? Are there images that show off the value and benefits of purchasing this product?

  • Looking to drive more sales of your book this year? Do you have photos of the cover and interior pages to help inspire people to buy?

  • Do you have a merch line? Are you happy with the photos that highlight these products?

If you said no to one or more of the above questions, now is the time for you to take action and get your image portfolio right to set you straight for the rest of the year.
