Why do I need so many photos?
Why do I need so many images in my content portfolio? Isn’t it overkill?
It’s not about the amount, it’s about the options.
During many exploration calls with prospective clients, I go through the entire process of what working with me looks like.
And, part of that explanation involves talking about the deliverables.
When I mention to them that they will receive several hundred photos when all is said and done, I often hear a similar response:
“Oh, that’s too many. I’ll never need that much!”
Truth is, most clients will never use every single image delivered in those portfolios.
But that’s not the goal, anyway.
The goal is to create as much opportunity for you and your marketing team to create as much visual variety across every single touch point of your online presence.
If you only have a handful of photos, you’re handcuffed with what you have. And, in most cases, you have to settle for making the best of it.
When your photo album is bursting at the brim with options, you have the chance to pick and choose the best images that work for you.
Once the photos are delivered to you and your team, you want the path of least resistance when creating your marketing assets.
Having a wide variety of photo options that vary from shot-to-shot - different compositions, facial expressions, angles, emotional sentiments, outfit changes, location changes, activities in front of the camera, etc. - helps to achieve that.
Well, what happens to the rest of the photos in that album?
You hold onto them until a new photo asset need arises and you revisit the unused images. It’s not like they disappear from your album if you don’t use them!
At the end of the day, you want to put your best foot forward when leveraging your image content.
Step 1 is to ensure that your photographer will deliver a quantity of high-quality images that can immediately be implemented for your short-term marketing asset needs, while also having a roster of photos on the bench that are ready to step up when you need them.
Long story short, don’t freak out when you see a high number of photos staring back at you in the face when you get the download link from your photographer.
It’s definitely a good thing :)
