Here's how a book photo session solved a client problem

If you’re promoting your book only with reader-generated selfies…

…you’re not doing enough

One of my clients, Phil Jones, has written one of my favorite books of the past couple years. It’s called Exactly What To Say.

But he had a problem.

You see, while the book is transformative in the way you approach any conversation with the goal of persuading someone to do something, the book visuals throughout his online presence didn’t live up to the brilliance of the words shared throughout the pages.

At first, he was leaning heavily on two types of image content:

  • 3-D graphic images - you know, the “white cover in a white space” templates where you simply add your cover art to it.

  • And, reader-submitted selfies taken while holding the book

While both of these options serve an important purpose in their own ways, we both agreed that they simply weren’t enough to position him as the authority in his space of expertise.

He wanted book photos that matched the artistry and compelling qualities of his branded lifestyle portraits and virtual photos.

So, we got to work to figure out what better looks like in solving this major point of friction in his marketing strategy.

First, we defined the objective:

Capture a versatile, image content portfolio of book photos that can be leveraged in various ways - website, social posts, blog thumbnails, presentation slides, and other promotional needs.

Then, we specified what that actually looks like in photos:

  • Create compelling cover photos using 1 book

  • Shoot a stack of the book in various ways

  • Capture the guts of the book - pull quotes, chapter titles, etc.

Once he sent me copies of the book, I immediately put on my creative cap and went to work on solving this immediate need.

After negotiating the elements outside, and the lighting scenarios in various rooms of my apartment, here’s what was created:

If you look throughout Phil’s online presence, the difference before we did the work and now is like night and day.

The reader-generated selfies have found it’s rightful place alongside these world-class images of his amazing book throughout his digital footprint.

Whenever he wants to create a post regarding the book, he can simply tap into his library and find one that visually punctuates the sentiment of the story he wants to share.

It’s pretty magical, if you ask me, :)

Turning to you…

How many book marketing challenges would be solved if you had an image content library filled to the brim with photos like this?

Whether you’re preparing to launch your next book or reignite sales for a previously published edition, having your hands on an army of visual assets like this will go a long way to achieving your sales goals.

And the Showcase Your Book Photo Session can help you do just that.

Cover photos. Chapter titles. Pull Quotes. Stacks of books in one shot. Yeah, it’s all covered.

The possibilities for these photos are endless.
