Picking up healthy habits
One takeaway from this pandemic situation?
Picking up healthy habits.
The past couple months have been an interesting time for all of us, that obviously goes without saying.
One of the more important aspects of everyone’s day has become supporting our immune systems through vitamins, supplements, the food we eat and liquids we drink.
Early on, it was suggested to me by a health and nutrition expert that a great way to help bolster the immune system was to drink apple cider vinegar first thing in the morning, either in water or as a pure shot.
Either way, I had a problem with that.
Why?
I can’t stand apple cider vinegar at any point in the day, let alone the first thing I drink in the morning.
But, I wasn’t feeling well, so I decided to bite the bullet and incorporate into my morning routine. To add more bitterness to the equation, I bought lemons to squeeze into this teary-eyed concoction.
The first time I tried it with water, I was definitely delivering the this-is-bitter-as-shit facial expression. Nevertheless, I put on my big boy pants and gulped the damn thing down.
Next up on my morning routine is to down the 4500 vitamins and supplements that I take daily, which, by the way, I take that amount of vitamins every morning, pandemic or otherwise.
That’s when I noticed an interesting, and positive, byproduct from downing this lemon/vinegar killer combo.
Typically, a few minutes after I ingest all the vitamins, I develop a nasty little stomach ache that lasts around 10 minutes or so before it subsides. I intermittent fast, so I have nothing in my stomach to ease the digestion.
Although it does make me feel like shit for a spell, I ultimately grin and bear it since it’s fleeting and I’d prefer to not eat breakfast.
But, on the day that I had the apple cider vinegar for the first time, the stomach ache was nowhere to be found. Same for the day after that.
And everyday since I’ve imbibed in the apple cider vinegar elixir.
Who would’ve thunk it, right?
I’m sure you nutrition nerds out there have something scientific to share about why this is the case, but as far as I’m concerned, the apple cider vinegar helps with my gut health, which is tied to my immune system AND it eliminates my morning stomach ache?
You know what that smells like?
Smells like a win in my book, baby!
Listen, is this win going to cure the world of Covid-19 from the planet?
No - but sometimes little victories go a long way, and after the past couple months, I’ll take victories large AND small.
So, how about you?
What are some of your little and unexpected victories that you’ve experienced over the past couple months?
