good to be part of a team...
Once upon a time, I was part of a large team while working in the television industry.
You couldn’t walk 5 feet in any direction without running into a handful of co-workers doing their thing.
These days, most of my critical work is done at home, by myself, which has its pluses and minuses.
The plus is that it allows me breathing room to marinate on what needs to be done. The minus is that it can become an extremely lonely spot to be in.
The good news is that I do have ample opportunities to collaborate with teams every now and then to deliver magical imagery.
The camaraderie, working closely with and spending the day alongside other folks working towards the same goal is something that I truly appreciate on a much different level now.
One specific group of folks that gets me excited to work with is the Workman team.
I was excited to fly to their Leverage event in Florida to capture their 3-day event.
Yes, I knew I was in for a backbreaker amount of work, but I also knew that I’d be supported in the process.
“Do you need anything? Can I get you anything? How can I help you?”
I was repeatedly asked these questions by team members the entire time I was there. While it’s not a necessary requirement, it was greatly appreciated because, quite frankly, this type of treatment isn’t a standard practice within these types of environments.
That feeling of support and appreciation inspired me to truly bring the heat during the conference.
While photographing well over 8000 photos in 3 days, and being completely spent the day after it was over, the conversations, interactions and connections made with the team and the event participants helped to put a smile on my face and ignore the sore, achy stuff going on physically.
This experience has me psyched to run it back next year and do it all over again :)
I’m deeply grateful for clients like the Workman team…I feel like I’m part of something bigger than myself, which a magical place to be 🙂
